How do you ramp up new content quickly?

I listen to audiobooks as I prefer them over reading, but I recently came across a great book summarizing service. It helps me prescreen books that might interest me by highlighting all the core areas, and if I want to dig deeper into it, I get the audiobook.

Does the idea of book summaries before reading it make sense to you? I find it saves me so much time, plus I can still learn the lessons from those that I might not have liked in the process.
